From the Mill and Main clock tower to the Presidential streets, Maynard packs a century of plumbing into about five square miles. IS Plumbing handles it all: repiping woolen-mill-era two-families, replacing water heaters in tight cellars, gas hookups, boiler service and drain work. We are a Millbury-based Master Plumber shop, licensed and insured, and Maynard sits comfortably inside our regular MetroWest routes.
Maynard is a true mill town — the Assabet woolen mill that later housed Digital Equipment still anchors downtown, and the streets around it were built for mill workers: compact two-families, close-set Victorians on the Presidential streets, and small capes climbing Summer Hill. Cellars are shallow, mechanical spaces are tight, and a lot of original steel pipe and cast iron is still in service. We specialize in exactly this kind of work — threading new supply lines through old framing, fitting modern water heaters into cramped basements, updating gas piping, and keeping older hot-water heating systems alive through January.
Maynard runs municipal water drawn from town well fields, and most of the compact street grid is on municipal sewer — a different picture from neighboring Sudbury and Stow, where septic dominates. Because the supply is groundwater, hardness and iron show up in water heaters and fixtures over time, and we get steady requests for softener and filter installs.
Every plumbing or gas job we take in town goes through the Maynard Building Department for permits and inspection, and we handle that end entirely. The bread-and-butter call here is the two-family water heater swap: two units, one tight cellar, and careful venting and gas sizing so both floors come out right.

All the time. The worker housing around the Presidential streets is our kind of job — shared cellars, tight chases, old steel pipe. We coordinate with both units so nobody loses water longer than necessary.
Yes. Shallow mill-town basements are routine for us; when a standard tank will not clear the stairs or the ceiling, a lowboy tank or a wall-hung tankless unit usually solves it.
Yes — we run and connect gas appliance lines as licensed gas fitters, pressure-test them, and file the gas permit with the Maynard Building Department before the appliance goes live.
Town water here comes from wells, and like most MetroWest groundwater it carries minerals that scale up water heaters and stain fixtures. A properly sized softener, sometimes paired with an iron filter, protects the whole system.
We handle drain calls in condos and apartments as well as houses — clearing the line mechanically, running a camera when the blockage repeats, and coordinating with management on shared piping.
